Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) at Old Dominion University (ODU) Department of Radiology hosts a chapter of Rad-Aid, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring radiology to low-resource areas. As part of their partnership with Rad-Aid, Dr. Amy Farkas, a Medical Center Radiologists (MCR) pediatric radiologist and faculty member of EVMS - ODU, and Laura Columbus, an EVMS-ODU radiology resident, recently traveled to the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center in Moshi, Tanzania.

Dr. Farkas participated in resident education by assisting in the interpretation of radiology studies, presenting lectures on topics in pediatric radiology, and leading hands-on ultrasound training sessions for the residents. She additionally fielded consults from clinicians and participated in hospital conferences to help deliver care for pediatric patients.

Dr. Columbus participated in a global health elective, learning about disease processes endemic to Tanzania and healthcare delivery in a resource-limited setting. She improved her diagnostic skills and brought the knowledge gained from this opportunity back to her co-residents at EVMS at ODU.

Drs. Farkas and Columbus were moved by the dedication and enthusiasm of the healthcare workers in Tanzania as well as the kindness of the people with whom they interacted.

MCR is proud to support their participation in this global health initiative!
